Established in Kyoto in 1920, Matsui Shouten is a specialist studio dealing in the highest quality materials for mounting and framing works of art.

Kumpei Matsui, third of his generation to inherit the studio, has extensive knowledge in Asian art from a lifetime of study. Prior to directing Matsui Shouten, he was a specialist at the renowned Takashi Yanagi Oriental Fine Arts gallery for thirteen years. His innate love and understanding of Japanese aesthetics underscore his keen interest in finding the best materials for each art object, respectful of restoration and conservation needs.

Matsui Shouten is proud to be of service to both museums and leading collectors in Japan and abroad, including the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
